Oh, this is awful. If we just had remembered the cloak, everything would have been all right!

It's a bit more complicated than that.

The real point is that we got into trouble, and it's just horrible. The whole school is angry with us, practically, and we're going to have to serve detention.

Like a sit down and be bored a few hours school detention-detention or're we talking more like jail time detention?

Right. [And? He clearly assumes that's a prelude to the actual (potentially criminal) mischief. When kids sneak out of their rooms you whine and put them back in and then that's the end of it, right?]

You'll be fine. Curfew's just somethin' adults make up so they can get kids outtah their hair for a few hours. They can't punish that too hard, they'll feel guilty since it's a selfish rule to start with.

It oughtta be an easy detention.

I'm not so sure. Professor McGonnagal already took fifty points from each of us.

From our House. Each House has points given or taken when its residents do something notable, you see, and at the end of term it's all tallied up.

Ah! So it's kinda like a little competition thing between dorms. The points sound like a bigger problem than the detention... The rest of yer house's gonna be a pain on you guys about that.

Guess you'll just have to do somethin' real notable to make up for it.

They already are. They hate us. It's awful for Harry especially, I think.
